About the Acupuncturist

Toni Andrikopoulos M.Ac, L.Ac, holds a BA in Psychology from Western Washington University. After working in community mental health settings for many years, Toni attended the Northwest Institute of Oriental Medicine (now Bastyr) in Seattle, Washington. She completed both her Masters in Acupuncture and her Certificate in Chinese Herbal Medicine at NIAOM. She is also certified by the National Acupuncture Detoxification Association (NADA). She has had both a private practice and was also a credentialed member of staff at Fairfax Hospital in Kirkland, Washington.

About Acupuncture

Acupuncture is part of Traditional Chinese Medicine, a healthcare system practiced for the prevention and treatment of disease. Acupuncture is a process of an insertion of very small disposable needles into the body at specific points along meridians. Acupuncture moves qi (Qi is energy or, our life force) . Most people do not experience discomfort with the needles. In fact, most people find acupuncture to be a relaxing and rejuvenating experience. ​​Cupping and electro acupuncture are available when indicated.

How Does Acupuncture Work?

Many studies have shown acupuncture to effective for a number of conditions, but no one is certain 100% about how it works. At the simplest level, acupuncture helps bring the body back into balance and facilitate its own healing mechanisms. From a Western medical perspective, acupuncture may modulate the bodies inflammatory response, initiate the "relaxation response" by activating the parasympathetic nervous system, relieving pain and releasing endorphins.

What Acupuncture can Treat

Hundreds of clinical studies on the benefits of acupuncture show that it successfully treats conditions ranging from musculoskeletal problems (back pain, neck pain, and others) to nausea, migraine headache, anxiety, depression, insomnia, and infertility. Although it is not inclusive, below is a list of conditions and circumstances for which people commonly find acupuncture treatment to be effective. What to Expect

Improvement of symptoms through acupuncture is usually a process. The effect of acupuncture is cumulative. Depending on the onset and severity of a particular health condition, you may find relief after the first treatment or after several continuous treatments. Most people start to notice changes after 4 to 6 treatments. Like most other treatment modalities, acupuncture works best when you can commit to a plan.
